One of his assignments was a "newspaper page." He did it on his own and after he was finished, I reviewed it with him to go over the spelling. (He makes LOTS of spelling errors!)
I was surprised to see that he chose Jesus as his hero. Michael is a HUGE professional wrestling fan and he talks about the men of WWE all the time. Incessantly! In fact, I had to go read up on WWE so that I could have a conversation with my son. If someone had asked me to name my son's hero, I would have probably said, "Rey Mysterio!"
His paragraphs humbled me. Our kids know what they are dealing with at a core level that we parents may not completely understand. While we have been quite open with the kids regarding my cancer, I think we could be missing some emotions. Michael isn't so much worried about my cancer, but he freely admits his fears in relation to needles and knives going into me! He's deathly afraid of needles (a true phobia . . . see my previous post at: http://victoryshengli.weebly.com/1/post/2012/05/shot-through-the-heart.html )
Jesus HAS been helping him handle his fears regarding my cancer. I think it's an incredible blessing that my son recognizes the strength that comes from his faith, even at the young age of 11.
